Kentucky Attorney General Urges Biden Administration to Restore Funding for Enrichment Programs

Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron is calling on the Biden administration to reinstate essential funding for enrichment programs focused on hunting and archery education. In a letter addressed to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, Cameron accuses the administration of manipulating children for political purposes and misinterpreting statutes to justify withholding funding.

Cameron criticizes the administration for prioritizing a “woke agenda” over the well-being of students and using them as pawns in political games. He argues that the Department of Education’s decision to defund these programs is part of a larger pattern of policies that cater to the extreme left.

The Attorney General highlights the administration’s involvement in promoting ideologies like Critical Race Theory, advocating for individual preferred pronouns, and allowing biological boys to compete in girls’ sports. He argues that these actions are not aligned with the values of American children and families.

Cameron emphasizes the positive impact that hunting and archery courses have on students, as they teach valuable life skills such as focus, self-control, discipline, and patience. He disputes the administration’s interpretation of the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), which led to the defunding of these programs, stating that the amendment does not authorize withholding resources from schools offering such courses.

The Attorney General’s plea aligns with his belief that these programs benefit students and should receive funding. The Department of Education’s categorization of archery and hunting as “technically dangerous weapons” has faced criticism from both Democrats and Republicans. The agency has expressed openness to reconsidering their stance and potentially reversing the decision.

As the debate on the funding of these programs continues, it raises questions about the administration’s broader approach to educational policy and funding priorities.
