White House Remains Committed to Supporting Ukraine Despite Public Opposition

Despite a recent CNN poll indicating that a majority of Americans are against Congress providing additional funding to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, the White House has downplayed these results. According to the poll, 55% of respondents believe Congress should not authorize further funding, while only 45% are in favor. Furthermore, 51% of respondents felt that the US has already done enough to help Ukraine, compared to 48% who believe more should be done.

However, the White House has emphasized its unwavering commitment to providing support to Ukraine. They have stressed the importance of bipartisan and bicameral support in Congress for helping the nation. National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, has highlighted the significance of aiding Ukraine not only for its people but also for the security of European allies and partners, especially NATO members.

Kirby has also reminded everyone that US national security is at stake here. Allowing Russia to succeed in its aggression against Ukraine could have far-reaching implications. Despite the public sentiment expressed in the poll, Kirby urged careful consideration of the potential consequences of inaction in the face of Russian aggression.

Reports suggest that the Biden administration is preparing a supplemental funding request for Ukraine, with the details set to be determined by the Office of Management and Budget. Despite the opposition expressed in the poll, the White House remains steadfast in its commitment to continuing support for Ukraine and standing against Russian aggression.
